The Jay. Garrulus glandarius

The Jay - a latin name that may indicate how noisy these big birds can be.... Garrulus glandarius.

These are the most colourful members of the crow family, Jays are famous for their acorn feeding habits - and also sweet chestnuts as these photos show.... and in the autumn you may see them burying acorns and other nuts for retrieving later in the winter. They can be quite rapacious, raiding the nests of smaller birds and often quarrelling with squirrels. Note these birds are in the UK, not in Hong Kong. All shot near my house in my garden.
