the boxer

Did you know that this lovely song - the boxer - was written by Paul Simon? It is a folk rockballad that variously takes the form of a first-person lament as well as a third-person sketch of a boxer. The lyrics are largely autobiographical and partially inspired by the Bible, and were written during a time when Simon felt he was being unfairly criticized. The song's lyrics discuss poverty and loneliness. It is particularly known for its plaintive refrain, in which they sing 'lie-la-lie', accompanied by a heavily reverbedsnare drum. OK that is enough wikipedia for anyone....

Here is another type of boxer the little cute, super tiny, Acromantis japonica, with its common name being a Japanese boxer mantis.

and yes, it is a species of praying mantis which can be found in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China. It was first described by John Obadiah Westwood in 1889. Very small, even for a mantis, only 1 or 2cm long.

I hope one day to find a full grown adult, not a nymph like this one, tho you can already see its wings ready for perhaps the next moult.
