Greenfinch Chloris chloris
Last week I spent a lovely morning in my Sister's garden in the New Forest, where they have quite a few birds coming to their feeders. I was working on isolating them against a nice background and putting together a little portfolio of british garden/wild birds....so here we start with this stocky finch which can be found throughout in Britain , but I do not see them very often where I live.
They are a bold even aggressive species and use their size to deter other birds at garden feeders.
The Greenfinch has undergone a major population decline in the UK since the mid-2000s, due to the disease Trichomonosis. It was added to the UK Red List in 2021.
