While in Mai Po, it is always a pleasure to watch these large birds fishing...and here you can see it has actually speared the fish, with its lower beak.
This is of course the very common great egret (Ardea alba), also known as the common egret, large egret, or (in the Old World) great white egret or great white heron. Which is why taxonomists and scientists get so upset and only use the latin species name to avoid confusion.
