Bali snakes

I was in Bali a couple of weeks ago, so this week we will be looking at some of the fine snakes that I found there.

First off, and one of my faves...The yellow-lipped sea krait (Laticauda colubrina), also known as the banded sea krait or colubrine sea krait,

HIghly venomous but not really a threat to humans unless you attack it or step on it....

It spends much of its time under water to hunt, and apparently loves to eat moray eels using its very potent neurotoxic venom. It returns to land to digest, rest, and reproduce, and we found this large lady on one of the black sand beaches..

The snake has distinctive black stripes and a yellow nose, and check out that paddle-like tail for use in swimming.
