Today's blog has long as its theme....as I was trying to answer the question, what is the longest name of any living organism?
Go on have a guess? How many letters? Answer at the end of the blog.
In Hong Kong we have the wonderful longhorn beetles.
And the long-tailed shrike.
Not forgetting the long-banded silverline butterfly.
But, in answer to my question, the longest scientific name of any living or fossil organism, is applied to a bacterium:
Myxococcus llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogochensis
This is isolated from soil collected at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Anglesey, in Wales, which you may have heard of, cos its also got the Train Station with the longest name....so now you know.
